A headline that looks more at home on the pages of the Daily Express or the Daily Mail features in The Observer this week. The paper reports that council leaders in Oxford have decided to ban the word Christmas from this year's festive celebrations to make them more 'inclusive'. The decision to rename the two month festival in Oxford the 'Winter Light Festival' has been criticised by religious leaders and locals. ![]() It would have been better had the headline to the story mirrored its contents on the criticisms by locals of the deficient quality of consultation by local authorities before making decisions that affect their communities instead of framing the piece in such a crude and inflammatory manner.
