| | The allegations made by Conservative MP, Robert Halfon, in the House today about ENGAGE are wholly untrue and a gross abuse of parliamentary immunity by a sitting MP. |
Mr Halfon accuses ENGAGE of being “aggressively anti-Semitic, homophobic and has extensive links to terrorism in Tunisia and the Middle East.” We call upon Mr Halfon to substantiate his allegations and if he can not, and we are assured he most certainly cannot, to retract the defamatory claims and offer ENGAGE a public apology.
We are dismayed at the attempt by Mr Halfon to malign the reputation and work of an organisation that exists to empower and encourage British Muslims to play a more active role in British media and politics.
Mr Halfon would not dare to make such allegations outside of Parliament knowing full well that he would be forced to defend them in court. We challenge him to repeat these accusations outside of Parliament.
Mr Halfon has abused his position as an MP, cowardly using the cloak of parliamentary immunity and Absolute Privilege to make these libellous claims. It is disreputable in the extreme and we expect a full apology.
