IBB to close Interpal account

PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 13 November 2008 17:04

The Islamic Bank of Britain (IBB) has under pressure from its clearing bank, Lloyds TSB, been forced to cease all dealings with Interpal and will close the charity’s bank account as of 8 December 2008.

UPDATE ADDED - 19 Nov.

IBB has expressed full support for Interpal but is powerless to ignore the instructions it has been issued and which will devastate the charity’s humanitarian work.

Interpal successfully fought a libel case against the Board of Deputies of British Jews in 2006 after a two year battle. The Board had accused the charity of being a ‘terrorist organisation’. This new setback will have disastrous consequences for the charity’s work in providing humanitarian assistance to Palestinians in desperate need.

Interpal is a registered charity in the UK. No explanation has been given for this action by Lloyds TSB and Interpal’s work is under threat of closure unless the decision is reversed.

Interpal has requested the support of Muslims and non Muslims that have defended the charity’s work for Palestinians to speak out against this draconian move. Address your letters to:

Islamic Bank of Britain plc,
Edgbaston House,
3, Duchess Place,
Hagley Road,
BIRMINGHAM,
B16 8NH.

Bulat Betalgiry,
Lloyds TSB Bank plc,
1st Floor,
25, Gresham Street,
LONDON,
EC2V 7HN.

UPDATE:

The pro-Israeli blog Harry’s Place catches on to the threatened closure by IBB of Interpal’s bank account.

David Toube writes that ‘Interpal spends much of its time and money suing anybody (except Panorama) who suggests that it has any link with Hamas. Therefore it is quite impossible to discuss why it is that LloydsTSB might have taken this action.’

Toube doesn’t mention, not surprisingly, that the libel cases Interpal has pursued against for example, the Sunday Telegraph and the Board of Deputies of British Jews have been successful.  Both the ST and the Board issued publicly apologies for inferring that Interpal was linked to Hamas or to terrorism.

The Board acknowledged in its statement of apology:

‘We referred to “terrorist organisations such as Hamas and Interpal”. We would like to make it clear that we should not have described Interpal in this way and we regret the upset and distress our item caused.’

So if you stay on the side of facts, discussion on why Lloyds TSB has taken this action is not impossible at all.

I regularly donate to interpal which i think is doing wonderful job to help the palestinian people. This is a crime in the eyes of ugly zionists. they would do any thing to malign muslim charities. We all must protest to Llyods TSB and IBB.

I sent an e-mail to Llyods TSB to register my protest. I request other people to do the same.

'I would like to lodge my protest with you on your decision to force Islamic bank of Britain to close Palestanian charity, Interpal's account. This is a charity which is doing wonderful job to help opressed and besieged people of occupied Palestine. I am a regular doner to Interpal and have pursuaded many of my friends and family to support Interpal's great work.
As an account holder with you, can I ask what is the reason behind your decision to force IBB to close Interpal account. We know that enemies of Palestenian people are very powerful ( and wealthy), but I want to inform you of my decision to close my personal account with your bank, if yo do not reverse the decision to close Interpal's account. I would also urge other people to stop banking with you. So please reconsider your decision and allow Interpal to carry on it's noble work.

Everyone with TSB Accounts should tell them they are closing them and taking their business elsewhere...

If they stall account closure for other reason like loans or cards you might still have with TSB, then everyone should withdraw ALL there money and take it elsewhere.

This is an overt atempt to steal the money. It is nothing to do with the legal activities o INTERPAL.But stealing money like this would cause further crisis to the capitalist financial dilamma

I strongly protest against the actions taken by Lloyds TSB. Interpal is a active charity, helping the needy in Palestine, just remember those vulnerable people who have no homes left, no food, no shelter, no means. They have lost everything and now they will lose the support and help of a reputable charity, Interpal. I strongly advise those muslims and non muslims who have accts with Lloyds to go elsewhere.

Salam Alikom

Remember how the Unbelievers plotted against thee, to keep thee in bonds, or slay thee, or get thee out (of thy home). They plot and plan, and Allah too plans, but the best of planners is Allah

I'm not worried, inshallah they will be sorry for what they did.

If Lloyds thought the countries in the ME cared about the Palestenians they wouldn't have dared to do so. But they know that ME countries rulers care about nothing but pleasing their masters who put them in power.

If rulers of ME cared about Palestine, there would be no need for Interpal. Oil export money for one day would be enough to feed the Palestenians for 30 years.

I am absolutely furious at Lloyd'ds tsb for closing down Interpal chairty on their justifcation of 'terrorist dealings'. This is just another consipracy against muslims and the fight for the palestinians. I hope that those who helped close down Interpal will suffer in hell. Jazaks.
