Reply from the Foreign Secretary to ENGAGE letter on Gaza

ENGAGE has received the following reply from the office of the Foreign Secretary, David Miliband, in response to our letter concerning the government's response to the recent Israeli bombardment and invasion of Gaza, in which 1,400 Palestinians were killed.

You will notice that the reply from the FCO does not address any of the questions raised by ENGAGE -  our original letter to the Foreign Secretary David Miliband can be read here - and is disappointing in its proforma content.

The disquiet among British Muslims over events in Gaza and the widespread feeling that the UK government sided with the Israelis - while claiming to be even-handed - is unlikely to be alleviated by the FCO's wholly inadequate reply.

The UK government claims to be acting to 'prevent violent extremism' in the UK while expecting the rest of us to turn a blind eye to its active support for the violent extremist actions of Israel. That is clearly an unacceptable and unjust position.

ENGAGE will be responding to the FCO's letter very shortly. Watch this space...

'It is easier to find a score of men wise enough to discover the truth than to find one intrepid enough, in the face of opposition to stand up for it' - A. A. Hodge [1823 - 1886]
One astonishing similarity between genuine democracy & the Rightly Guided Khalifas [ra] is the CAPACITY of the duly appointed leaders to, in fact, act & behave like the servants of the people!

The chicanery of charlatans is hardly in the same league, then, hmmm?

I have just read your letter and the truly awful response from the government. Who do they think they are kidding? They did not answer a single one of your questions.

The government is clearly siding with the Israelis. It is terrible.
