Israel's 'aid' to Haiti was a PR stunt

The BBC carries an analysis by Jonathan Marcus, the BBC News Diplomatic Correspondent, on the murder of Mahmoud Al Mabhouh asking if his murder is ‘an own goal for Israel?’

The article reflects on the reactions of British and Israeli politicians and media to the information being undercovered by Dubai police on Mabhouh’s assassins.

Marcus writes:

‘Over recent years there has been growing external criticism of Israel which has hardened in the wake of the Gaza War.

'Many in Israel see this as an explicit campaign to de-legitimise their country and even friendly foreign governments have engaged with Israel to explore how its deteriorating image can be improved.’

Which is an interesting comment indeed given the wide coverage of Israel’s aid relief to the earthquake-stricken Haitians last month in various media outlets, including BBC News.
