Muslim fanatics ‘hijack British prison’

Another instance of a Sunday Express front page headline that bears little or no relation to the facts. Something the paper does with panache when the story relates to Muslims.

The paper states that Muslim ‘fanatics’ have ‘hijacked’ Whitemoor prison forcing other prisoners to convert or face arbitrary punishments. It claims that the behaviour of Muslim gangs in the prison has led to fear and insecurity among staff and other inmates.

'Muslim prisoners have launched a reign of terror inside a top security British jail', the paper claims.

An earlier news story in the paper on prison staff supporting a motion of no confidence in the Governor of Whitemoor, strangely, makes no mention of the 'hijacking' of the prison by 'Muslim fanatics'. One would certainly expect a 'reign of terror' to have some significant effect on the confidence, or lack thereof, of prison staff in their Governor.

The Governor, Steve Rodford, has previously stated that, Muslim prisoners were not "a law unto themselves" and that “robust monitoring of all prisoners takes place at Whitemoor irrespective of their religion or affiliations.”

And a Prison Service spokesperson who said that, “There is no evidence to suggest prisoners are being branded or assaulted in an effort to radicalise them”, is tacked on to the end of the article. Typical, really.
