Campaigners in Scotland will petition MSPs to ban the animal slaughter methods used by Muslims and Jews the Scotland on Sunday newspaper reports (7 Sept). Backed by the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) and the Advocates for Animals group, the petition will ask MSPs to support a move that will require all animals killed in Scotland to be pre-stunned first. But Sajid Quayum, of the Islamic Society of Britain, said: "The animal must be treated with utmost respect and slaughtered with the minimum amount of pain. The blade or knife should not be sharpened in front of the animal nor are they to be killed in front of one another."
