The Home Office said in a statement: "Having carefully balanced rights to protest against the need to ensure local communities and property are protected, the home secretary gave her consent to a Bradford Council order banning any marches in the city over the bank holiday weekend." Read more here. A static demonstration, however, is still set to go ahead on the same day of the “We Are Bradford” unity event – a celebration of unity and our multicultural society. The event will take place on 28th August, which United Against Fascism (UAF) have called “vital”. A statement by UAF joint secretary, Weyman Bennett, says: “It is vital that anti-racists in Bradford and beyond stand shoulder to shoulder with the city’s Muslim population – the main targets of the EDL’s racism. The We are Bradford event is an opportunity for a peaceful, united and multicultural event to act as a focus for everyone who wants to express their opposition to the racism and violence of the EDL.” The video below details the nature of EDL demonstrations in the past.
